A Brief History
Progati College, Agomani (Arts Stream) is established in 1991 (18th August) at Agomani, P.O-Agomani, Dist-Dhubri (Assam), Pin-783335. The area belonging multi-Community inhabitants,
an Indo-Bangladesh border, economically backward, has basic profession i.e., cultivation. It is a fruitful result of some intellectuals viz. Md. Aminur Rahaman (Ex Principal i/c, Agomani H.S. School),
Md. Mansur Ali Sarkar (Ex Principal i/c, P.B. College, Gauripur), Mr. Prahllad Ch. Paul (Ex Principal i/c, Agomani H.S. School), Mr. Esmail Ali Sarkar (Secretary, Agomani National Club),
Mr. Paramananda Chakrabarti (Ex Asstt. Teacher, Agomani H.S. School), Mr. Ambika Charan Roy (Ex Asstt. Teacher, Agomani H.S. School) and many others.

In the beginning, Subject Teacher of Agomani H.S. School took classes in the College. Among them many are not alive today. The contribution of the subject teachers remain today unforgettable.
The College is founded in aid of the College surrounding localities of all sections. Mr. Harendra Nath Paul (A reputed land holders and businessman) donated 20 Bighas land to found the College. From all sectors,
even common people also aided to the College fund. Monthly donation has been given by – Agomani Samabay Samity, Satrasal Samabay Samity, Proma Cinema Hall, Chagolia Gate, Kaldoba Market and many official persons
working in several offices of Agomani. Moreover daily collection was given by the Dhubri-Cooch Bihar, Dhubri-Boxirhat buses and local wood businessman.
In the beginning only 7(Seven) Students were admitted in the College. Now the College bears more than thousand enrolments every year. The College is of one Stream (Arts). Assam Govt. allotted Science Stream in 2020,
released fund for laboratory arrangement. The College will start the stream after getting Govt. order. The College got final Govt. Concurrence in 1998. In 2013 the College has been provincialized by Govt. of Assam.
The College offers courses under Gauhati University (Assam). In the end, the College regards its gratitude to the intellectual directors, workers, doners and guides who took step first to found the College. The College also expresses its hearty wishes to the 7(Seven) first
admitted Students in the College.
