History of the Department:
Sanskrit Department of Progati College, Agomani, Dhubri was opened on 5th August 1997. As an integral part of this premier institute the Department has been imparting higher education to the students since its very inception. The endeavour of the Department is to carry on the values and tradition of the College. This Department has been facilitating the learners to study both the Major/Honours and General/Regular courses. The Major course started in the year 2006-2007. The Department also provides the students the avenues to participate in various Co-curricular activitiy.
The Academic Journey of the Dept. started with the founder teacher honourable Mr. Jitendra Nath Prodhani (Present President of Satra Mahasabha, Assam) followed by respected teacher Miss. Barnali Pandit who contributed a lot to the Department. Being enriched by their contributions the Dept. has been thriving till today with full vigour.
At present the helm of this Dept. lies in the hands of Mr. Mrinal Barman (H.O.D), Assistant Professor, Mr. Parameswar Ray and Mr. Mrinal Kanti Roy Sarkar.
Objectives of the Department:
1. The main objective of the Department of Sanskrit is to provide platform to the students to achieve their expected aspiration and thereby to establish themselves in diversified strata of the Society.
2. The mission of the Department is to popularize Sanskrit language as well as Sanskrit Culture and other Indian Culture also.
3. The Department has been facilitating the learners to build their career and develop their character.
4. One of the objectives of the Department is to empower the challenges of real life.
Vision of the Department:
1. The vision of the Department is to create resourceful Students, who can contribute in.
2. In the line of the motto of the college is “विद्वान्सर्वत्रपूज्यते”, and the motto of the Sanskrit Department is “श्रद्धावान्लभतेज्ञानम्”.
3. The Department of Sanskrit also wants to inculcate the spirit of dedication and integrity among the students.
4. The vision of the Department is to acquaint the learner with the preliminary concepts of various disciplines like the literature, scientific literature, philology, philosophy, poetics etc.
5. The endeavour of the Department is to introduce the students with the great culture heritage of India. Its vision is to lead the learners towards a broader horizon to understand their life.
6. The Department intends to inspire the students to undertake interdisciplinary research activities.
7. The dream of the Department is to develop human resources by inculcating the sprit of ethical values, which is considered to be the foundation of Sanskrit culture.
8. The vision of the Department is to maintain the legacy of Sanskrit- “सर्वेभवन्तुसुखिनो” may all be happy.
