Progati College, Agomani was established on 1991 in the Boarder area of Bangladesh and West Bengal in Dhubri District of Assam. The Department of Philosophy of Progati College, Agomani come in to existence in the same year (1991) along with the some other Departments. Since its inception the Department is engaged in imparting education to Students. The joint effort of Mr. Mansur Ali Ahmed founder Secretary of Progati College, Agomani Mr. Amanur Rahman founder President of Progati College, Agomani Mr. Chandra Bhusan Sarma founder Principal of Progati College, Agomani and immerse support of people with their noble purpose and great effort made possible to start the twelve Departments successfully.
Initially, Mrs. Anjali Sinha founder Head of Progati College, Agomani Headed the Department in 1991. In 1997Mr. Azizul Hoque joint the Progati College, Agomani and took the charge of Department till today.
At present there are Three full time faculty members in the Department – Mr. Azizul Hoque (H.O.D), Mr. Sankar Roy, Mr. Alimuddin Sk. and one post lying vacant.
Objectives:
The objective of the Department of Philosophy is to provide excellent integrated education to Students. The Department encourages Student to approach education as a lifelong learning process so that they are capable of participating in and understanding the world of the 21st century. The Department always tries to provide a suitable environment for implication of knowledge and culture and it challenges Students to promote their own intellectual, Social and personal development. The Department selves this objective by guiding Students to acquire knowledge.
The Department emphasises the necessity of critical thinking skill and to recognize the important reflecting there in ideas and values. The Department foster situations in which Students have opportunities to apply their skill both historically orientated and case-based learning techniques.
The Department of Philosophy is committed to strengthening its commitment to Student’s success and broadening its recognition for excellence in teaching and community service.
The Department continues to enhance Students learning by improving upon and adding to additional departmental facilities like book donations to advance learner having financial problems. The Department also provides financial support to the students whenever necessary.
The Department always encourages the students to involve in co-curricular activities and for that purpose the Department provides facilities to the students.
Vision of the Department:
* Students completing B.A in Philosophy will be able to:
1. Communicate a clear understanding of historical and contemporary philosophical enquiry.
2. Demonstrate and able to think independently about a philosophical topics or problems.
3. Clearly articulate and support their own views.
4. Critically analyse a philosophical organ concerning a particular topic or problem.
